OHS '68 50th Reunion Recap

OHS Class of '68 50th Reunion Recap:  August 24-26, 2018

We were so excited to see everyone! Here's a brief rundown of our weekend together.  As photos come in, we'll begin posting them so you too can "bask in post-reunion afterglow" as John Patenge might say.

FRIDAY 6:00PM - We met in the back room of Henry's Place in the Okemos Target shopping Center.  It was fun to begin reconnecting, and also say hi to a few non-classmates that stopped by.

SATURDAY AM - Although a rainy morning, about a dozen of us met in the parking lot of Buddies Pub and Grill.  After boarding the big yellow school bus, we were surprised by some delightful Lunch Ladies delivering 'lunch sacks from mom' as snacks for our tour of the 'hoods. (Thank you Elaine!)  We visited most of the subdivisions, sparking many memories and much laughter. A last-minute highlight was fulfilling Bill Byrd's Bucket List of having his house papered. (Our thanks to his sister Susan for being so forgiving!)

SATURDAY LUNCH - Classmates gathered for lunch together at Buddie's, or set out on their own to do some exploring.

SATURDAY 4PM-5PM - Many classmates toured the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in downtown Lansing to remember the cars from our youth. Then it was a short walk to Cooley Law School Stadium's The VIEW.

SATURDAY 5PM - 10:30p Cocktail Hour and Dinner Buffet was held at The View.  This was the main event of the weekend, with delicious offerings from the Executive Chef of the Lansing Lugnuts. We were delighted to be joined by Marilyn Bowker (teacher), and Coach Larry and Rita Cockroft. When it was realized that our senior year Homecoming King and Queen were both in attendance, we re-crowned Byron Johnson and Sandy Raines - thanks, Patti......and Burger King! Jill created a beautiful table of memories, especially of our classmates who have passed on before us. And this year's color was purple as we signed our Reunion Tablecloth.  Soon we'll post the video that was played throughout the evening.

Attending: Sally Joanne Bowden (Potts) + sister Judy; Mary Bratzler (Pruss) + Steve; Bill Byrd; Becky Carlson (Schmitt) + Doug; Craig Foerch; Sue Geahan (Hilleary) + Scott; Daryl Griggs; Byron Johnson; Andrew Linnell; Patti Lyon (Vanlerberghe); Gail McNeely; Jan Mercer (Loeffler) + Don; Steve Parisian + Denise; John Patenge + Mary; Michael Premer; Sandy Raines + Ron Cadieux; Elaine Raskey (Drake); Jill Slocum (Tribell) + Sky; Mary Warner (Smith) + Ron; Hila Wever + sister Kari; Jim Wiley; Laurel Winkel; Marliyn Bowker (teacher); Coach Larry Cockroft + Rita.

SUNDAY 10AM - Most of us gathered for brunch at Coral Gables, stretching out our last few hours together.

DONATE TO THE OHS WEBSITE -  Please give a huge thanks to folks from the Class of '65 for starting this site for all of us! It is proving to be a boon for many reasons:  reunion planning, communicating with each other, sharing photos/videos, OHS history and more. The expenses of the reunion have been covered, but we'd like to donate towards the website's annual maintenance fees. You can find Donation options here.  Thank you - and a big thank you to the classmates who have already donated.

STILL SUPER IMPORTANT!! - Thank you for registering on this website - it made planning the reunion immeasurebly easier for us.  Please take some time to review the 1968 Missing Classmates section and contact anyone you can - please remind them it's free to sign-up.  We fear not as many classmates were aware of the reunion because we've lost track of them. (You can always call Okemos High School for reunion information.)

SHARING CONTACT INFORMATION - Many folks shared contact information over the weekend, and a request was made that we compile names/phone/email/address info to send out to everyone. Please let us know if you'd like to be included on the list, and make sure you have current info in your Profile on this site.  Thanks!

Thank you again to everyone who participated - we're looking forward to our next opportunity to be together.....in fact, an annual get-together may become 'a thing,' as folks don't want to wait so long next time. We hope you'll join us!
