8th grade examinations.  Most students didn't go beyond 8th.

If you remember, all the little school houses were numbered and Okemos was always #2.  Okemos was called several names over the course of time but the #2 was generally added to designate the school house.  And I think these kids were finishing 8th grade.  That's as far as most kids went in school.
